Get To Know Tommy Gun

This Cape Town DJ has been around the block a few times, leaving a wake of smiles from his infectious blend of dance friendly jams. Tommy Gun is a dynamic DJ who can seamlessly bounce between house, old school disco and electro beats. Find out what makes Tommy Gun one of the most unique DJ’s on the scene right now.

Putting it on wax

Tommy Gun has a vinyl record obsession that even he admits is ‘bonkers’. His facination started with his father’s record collection that was constantly being supplemented by weekend buys at Milnerton market. Unlike many plug and play DJ’s today, Tommy Gun is not afraid to play an entire set on turntables, giving him an old school edge to his sound.

Untamed Youth

The Cape Town institution of Fiction night club wouldn’t be what it is without its long standing Untamed Youth student night, something that Tommy Gun has become synonymous with. Together with his fellow DJ buds Haasbroek and Mudblud, they have kept the Cape Town scene bumping for over ten years now.

Playing the market

In an unconventional twist, Tommy Gun has a second life in investing and finance. During the day he switches out his decks for a desk and puts on his business brain to work. It’s not the most obvious combination, but it seems to work for him.

An old soul

Growing up around records, he was bound to foster a love for the previous generations rhythms. He lists late disco classics like Suzy Q and Sylvester as his most important records. Classic acts like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Who and The Rolling Stones help round out his rockier side. He is also a big fan of sneaking Brenda Fassie’s Weekend Special into sets where ever he can.

Tommy Gun can be spotted at many of South Africa’s premium music festivals and clubs across the country, bringing fun upbeat and groovy sounds to the dancefloor. Don’t miss a chance to feel the beat next time you see his name show up on the line up
